Presidential Duties
Listed below are the duties of the three presidential positions on our club committee. Click on the links to view them
President
The duties of the President are summarised as follows:
- Should be familiar with the Constitution and Standing Resolutions and have a copy available for reference at all meetings;
- Should understand how to chair a meeting;
- Should ensure that an agenda is prepared for the meeting;
- Should take the opportunity to meet all members, guests and visiting Probians on a fellowship basis;
- Should ensure that Management Committee recommendations are brought to the membership for acceptance and ratification;
- To keep in mind and to remind members from time to time of the aims, objects and origins of Probus, emphasising the importance of fellowship, friendship and fun. It is recommended that this be done at the commencement of each meeting.
- To advance Probus fellowship beyond your own club, members should be encouraged to read the official publications of the Probus Centre-South Pacific Limited. (Active Retirees Magazine). Encourage members to contribute stories, articles, letters and photographs for publication in the magazine.
- Encourage members to contribute articles and items to our own club’s Coast Newsletter.
- It is a good idea to invite the President of our sponsor Rotary Club to special occasions (Anniversary and Christmas functions); it is a gesture that is greatly appreciated.
Senior Vice President
The duties of the Senior Vice President are summarised as follows:
- Should be familiar with the Constitution and Standing Resolutions and have a copy available at all meetings;
- Should understand how to chair a meeting;
- Should work closely with the President to become familiar with the role and responsibilities of the Presidency;
- Should take the opportunity to meet all members, guests and visiting Probians on a fellowship basis;
- Take over the running of the meetings in the President’s absence;
- Deals with any Presidential issues that may arise in the President’s absence;
- Takes over the duties of any Management Committee member in their absence or arrange an alternative assistant;
- Assist any Management Committee member who has a heavy work load;
- Learn and understand the role of President;
- Is responsible for procuring the guest speaker for each general meeting and looking after the guest speakers’ needs and fellowship during the meeting;
- Is the responsible Management committee person for the theatre, monthly picnic and walking events.
Junior Vice President
The duties of the Junior Vice President are summarised as follows:nt.
- Assimilate new members into the club.
- Keep in touch with new members to encourage them to attend the General Meeting and participate in Activities, Events and Getaways.
- Reserve seating for new members at General Meetings and Lunch.
- Report each month to the Committee on the involvement of new members in the club.
- Invite New Members to consider a role on the Committee.
- Become familiar with the Constitution and Standing Resolutions
- Is the responsible Management Committee person for Lawn Bowls, Craft, Songsters, and Ten Pin Bowling.
- Is the contact person for the initial organising of a new activity.
- Take over the responsibilities of the President and Senior Vice President in their absence
- Arrange Guest Speakers for early in the following year when they become Senior Vice President.
