The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley is a festive companion play to Miss Bennet: Christmas at Pemberley, set in the Regency era at the grand Pemberley estate.  While the Darcys and their guests celebrate upstairs, the story unfolds in the servants’ quarters, focusing on the bustling preparations led by the steadfast housekeeper Mrs.  Reynolds, the eager new maid Cassie, and the inventive footman Brian.

The holiday peace is shattered when George Wickham, Lydia Bennet’s scandalous husband and Mr. Darcy’s long-time adversary, arrives drunk and injured after a barroom brawl.  Though banned from Pemberley, Mrs. Reynolds takes pity on him, allowing him to stay. His unexpected presence ignites tension, secrets, and misunderstandings among the staff. Cassie discovers a letter in Wickham’s coat that implicates him in adultery and gambling debts, sparking a plan to help Lydia secure a divorce.

As the truth emerges, Lydia confronts Wickham and finally asserts her independence, choosing to end her marriage. The play explores themes of class, forgiveness, female agency, and redemption, culminating in a heartwarming resolution where Cassie earns a future in service, Brian gains new opportunities, and Lydia steps into her own as a woman free from manipulation.  The story blends humor, romance, and holiday spirit, offering a fresh, empowering perspective on Jane Austen’s world.
